These are introductory, online sessions that provide basic information and education on renewable energy systems and sustainable living, and are free for MREA Members.

In this course, students will learn the basics of how solar domestic hot water heating systems (SDHW) work and their economic impacts with emphasis on northern climate systems. This class will prepare students for entry level work in the solar water heating field and will help facilities managers, architects, planners, home owners, and government officials to understand the workings and benefits of solar domestic hot water systems.

This online tutorial provides an overview of the fundamental skills and concepts needed to develop competent and safe work practices when dealing with PV systems. 

We'll review electrical theory, Ohm's Law and power calculations, and series/parallel circuit configurations. We'll also explore and discuss common electrical tools, and learn how to safely and accurately measure electricity in a circuit.

This online tutorial will introduce the concept of wind energy. Participants will learn basic definitions used in wind energy, how small wind electric systems work, and how wind systems can add to the value of any home or business.

This online tutorial introduces you to the concept of solar electricity, also known as photovoltaics or PV. You'll be taught some basic definitions, review electricity fundamentals, learn about different PV system types and how they work, and discuss how PV systems can add value to homes and businesses.

This tutorial is intended to help you understand, define, and explain "stray voltage" as it pertains to farm wiring and renewable energy systems on farms. Although used widely and often incorrectly, there is a USDA definition of stray voltage, and many states (including Wisconsin) have adopted rules, limits, and mitigation policies surrounding the subject. 

In this tutorial, you'll learn basic electrical properties and terms, and apply that to grid (utility) electricity and distributed generation systems on farms.
